Clase Azul Mezcal San Luis Potosí

Mezcal San Luis Potosí showcases a very different side of mezcal, rooted in the arid highlands and plains of San Luis Potosí rather than the more familiar southern mezcal regions. This expression is made from Green agave, botanically known as Agave salmiana, a large and hardy variety that thrives in semi desert conditions and delivers a profile that is broader, rounder and more herbal than Espadín based mezcals.

The agave is harvested at maturity and cooked using traditional methods consistent with mezcal production in the region, before fermentation and distillation designed to preserve the weight and character of the raw material. Bottled as a joven mezcal at 43 percent ABV, it is not aged in wood, allowing the natural flavour of the agave and the influence of the environment to remain front and centre.

On the nose, Mezcal San Luis Potosí opens with cooked agave, caramelised sweetness and fresh vegetal notes, followed by hints of green chilli, wild herbs and subtle floral tones. The palate is full bodied and expressive, showing sweet agave, herbal spice, citrus peel and mineral elements that reflect the dry, limestone rich soils of the region. The finish is long and warming, with lingering spice and a gentle savoury edge rather than overt smoke.

As with all Clase Azul mezcals, the bottle is an integral part of the story. Each decanter is hand made and finished by artisans, with decorative elements inspired by the desert landscape and cultural heritage of San Luis Potosí, making every piece visually unique.
