Description
This is the 2024 Musica release in Clase Azul's annual Dia de Muertos series, a collector anejo presented in a hand decorated purple ceramic decanter topped with a gilded accordion playing Catrina made in Tesistan, Jalisco. Clase Azul is produced at Productos Finos de Agave, NOM 1416, in Jesus Maria in the Los Altos highlands, from brick oven cooked blue Weber agave; the house style is markedly sweet rather than rustic, and the brand does not hold additive-free verification.
The master distiller rested this edition for 26 months in American whiskey casks before a finishing period in casks that previously held Scotch whisky, longer than the one year anejo minimum. That long aging shows in honey, nutmeg and dried plum on the nose, with cinnamon, a touch of chocolate and a smoky cask edge carrying through a sweet, lingering finish. Bottled at 40%.
