A young single barrel Clarendon MMW from 1423 S.B.S at 59.5 percent, classic Jamaican funk and pineapple over dry, tannic wood and paxarette wine notes, punchy and best taken neat.
Description
Bottled by Denmark's 1423 under its detail obsessed S.B.S Single Barrel Selection, this is a four year old Clarendon distilled in 2020 from the MMW marque. Clarendon is a workhorse Jamaican estate whose pot still marks can be genuinely funky, and S.B.S bottles cask strength, unsweetened and without chill filtration, with full transparency.
Young and punchy at 59.5 percent, it carries the estate's Jamaican funk, esters, glue and pineapple, over a dry, tannic oak frame with an unusual paxarette wine note giving the cask edge. The palate is woody and dry with almost no sweetness, finishing on fruit, caramel and wood. Certified unsweetened, it is a robust, focused single barrel for drinkers who like their Jamaican rum dry and woody with serious strength, enjoyed neat.
