A 23 year old Clarendon under the MLC mark from Maison Ferrand’s Planteray Foundation series, a single cask at 51.5% with fresh tropical fruit, dry herbal wood and a touch of medicinal astringency over a long finish.
Description
This release sits in Maison Ferrand's Planteray Foundation line, spotlighting Clarendon under the funkier MLC mark from the 2001 vintage. Bottled as a single cask at 23 years and 51.5%, it leans into the estery side of this workhorse central-Jamaica distillery rather than its lighter column stock.
Matured in ex-bourbon wood, it carries fresh, lively fruit: pineapple and tropical fruit on the nose, then a fresh, citrus-edged palate cut with a dry herbal note. The funk shows as varnish and a medicinal astringency typical of aged Clarendon, balanced by oak from more than two decades in cask. The finish runs long, woody and fruity. With its sweetening status unconfirmed in the data, it reads as a dry, focused pour, well suited to drinkers who enjoy Hampden-style fruit and funk but want a slightly tamer strength.
