Description
Circe Verdejo is made by Avelino Vegas, a Rueda winery founded in 1950 that produced its first Verdejo in 1964. The wine is a single-varietal Verdejo from old vines planted at 700 to 800 metres near Segovia, at the higher, cooler end of the region. Rueda's climate is Mediterranean with a strong continental influence, bringing very cold long winters, late spring frosts and hot dry summers; the altitude widens the day to night temperature swing, which slows the final ripening and preserves the aromatics and acidity the grape is known for. The fruit is fermented in stainless steel to keep the profile clean and the fruit fresh and immediate. It shows a pale colour with green tints and a nose of kiwi, green apple and citrus with a herbal fennel note. The palate is dry and refreshing, the acidity bright and the finish carrying the faintly bitter, herbal snap of Verdejo. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white glass. A good aperitif and a match for shellfish, white fish and salads.
