Description
Cinco Elementos Espadin is an Oaxacan mezcal made entirely from Espadin in San Lorenzo Albarradas, where third generation makers Faustina Garcia and Luiz Martinez run the palenque. The brand takes its name from the five elements said to come together in mezcal, air, water, earth, fire and agave, and bottles this joven at 48.6% to carry the weight the local terroir gives it.
The agave is roasted in an underground stone oven, a horno de piedra, then crushed on a tahona, fermented in pinewood tanks and twice distilled in copper. The limestone rich, rocky soil pushes the plants to root deep and concentrate, and the spirit reflects it: smoky and full bodied with a faintly oily texture, leaning on baked agave with a chalky, mineral, earthy character and the intensity that suits its high proof.
