Description
Togouchi 9 Years Old is a blended whisky from Chugoku Jozo, based in Kure, Hiroshima, and part of a range that earned its identity from one of Japan's more unusual ageing environments. The distillery uses a decommissioned railway tunnel as its maturation warehouse, where the stable, cool conditions slow the interaction between spirit and wood.
The liquid rests for nine years in Ex-Bourbon casks, drawing vanilla sweetness and soft cereal character from the American oak. The blend incorporates both domestic and sourced stock, and the result is gentle and approachable: warm vanilla, mild dried fruit and a trace of toasted wood, balanced at 40% for the European market.
