Description
Christophe Pacalet makes this Beaujolais Nouveau in the granite hills of Beaujolais, working in the Burgundian négociant tradition of his family. Nouveau is the first wine of the vintage, made for early drinking and released within weeks of the harvest. The Gamay grapes are fermented whole and uncrushed by carbonic maceration, where fermentation begins inside the intact berries in a sealed tank. This method extracts bright colour and fruit while leaving tannin low, and it gives the wine its signature aromatics of red berry and, often, a note of banana and bubblegum. There is no oak ageing, so the fruit stays fresh and immediate. The wine is bright ruby, with raspberry, cherry and redcurrant on the nose, a floral lift and a touch of pepper. The palate is light, juicy and soft, the acidity fresh, the finish clean. This is grown under respectful farming. Serve lightly chilled at 13 degrees Celsius. It is an easy match for charcuterie, roast chicken and grilled pork.
