Description
Kapitel I comes from Christian Tschida, a fourth-generation grower on the Neusiedlersee in Burgenland, eastern Austria. The estate farms its vineyards organically and works in a natural, low-intervention style, with minimal additions in the cellar. The site sits beside the shallow Lake Neusiedl, whose mass moderates the continental climate and lengthens the growing season, helping the grapes ripen while holding their freshness. The wine blends Cabernet Franc, which brings red fruit and a leafy, savoury edge, with the local Zweigelt, which adds bright cherry fruit and a soft, juicy texture. At 12 percent alcohol it stays light and lively. Ageing in oak for two years rounds the tannins and adds a little spice while keeping the fruit to the fore. The wine is bright ruby, with cherry and raspberry on the nose, peppery spice, dried herbs and a floral lift. The palate is fresh and fruity, the tannins fine, the finish savoury. This is natural, organic farming reflected in the glass. Serve lightly chilled at 14 degrees Celsius. It suits grilled pork, roast chicken and baked salmon.
