Description
Christian Tschida farms in Burgenland, eastern Austria, near the shallow Lake Neusiedl, working organically and making natural wine with minimal intervention. Himmel auf Erden Grande Cuvee blends aromatic Scheurebe with Weissburgunder, or Pinot Blanc. The soils around the lake are gravel, sand and limestone, and the warming effect of the large body of water extends the ripening season while morning humidity from the lake shapes the fruit. Scheurebe drives the aromatics, a grape prized for grapefruit, blackcurrant leaf and elderflower, while Weissburgunder adds weight and a rounder middle. The wine is fermented with wild yeast and aged twelve months in oak barrels, which softens the texture and integrates the aromatics through slow lees contact rather than adding obvious wood. The colour is bright with a light golden cast. The nose is expressive, all white peach, elderflower and citrus peel with a floral lift. The palate is dry and textured, the aromatic fruit balanced by fresh acidity and a subtle savoury note from the natural winemaking. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a larger glass.

Additional information
The aromatic fruit and oak-softened texture suit roast pork and herbed roast chicken. It also handles mildly spiced dishes and lighter curries, where the ripe fruit balances the heat.
