Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama is operated by Venture Whisky under Ichiro Akuto and produces small batches of highly sought malt drawn from fruit-forward new make across a wide cask programme. The distillery was founded in 2008 as Akuto rebuilt the family whisky tradition after the closure of Hanyu in 2000. The US Edition 2020 is a 5 Years Old expression bottled at cask strength, continuing the annual series tailored for the North American market, and one of the few age-stated expressions in the run.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks, this release carries a smoky character alongside the vanilla and cereal sweetness typical of the wood. At 55.5% the whisky arrives at full intensity, the peaty thread running through ripe tropical fruit and warm spice. The youth of the spirit adds vitality and a lively texture, reflecting the energy of Saitama malt at natural strength.
