Description
Chichibu is the small-batch flagship of Venture Whisky, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto in Saitama prefecture, south of Tokyo. The distillery was built on the estate of Akuto's family, inheritors of the old Hanyu distillery tradition, and quickly became one of the most talked-about Japanese single malts for its vibrant, fruit-forward new make and wide cask programme. The US Edition is an annual series of cask strength releases produced specifically for the North American market; this 2019 bottling is a NAS expression.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks, the wood lends vanilla, coconut and the characteristic tropical lushness that Chichibu is known for. The chocolate richness noted in the profile sits alongside the distillery's usual zesty orchard fruit, and at 55.5% the release arrives with enough weight to carry both sweetness and depth. It is a lively, uncut expression of Saitama malt built for the American palate.
