Chichibu distillery in Saitama, Venture Whisky's craft flagship, releases a portion of its annual single-cask output through The Single Cask label, a format reserved for specific overseas markets. This 2014 vintage was directed to Sweden and Norway, bottled in 2022 after eight years of Ex-Bourbon maturation, and captures the more grain-forward side of Chichibu's flavour range.
The profile shows cooked vegetable, citrus, malt extract and a yeasty grain note alongside vanilla and new wood from the American oak, a combination that leans towards the cereal and fermentation character of the new make rather than the tropical fruit brightness seen in other casks. At 59.5% cask strength, the spirit has the body and warmth expected from a full-ABV Chichibu release, and the finish is honest and sustained, with grain, citrus and soft wood tannin carrying through to the end.
