Description
The 2019 Taiwan Edition from Chichibu is notable for carrying an age statement: 7 Years Old, distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2019. This makes it one of the older expressions in the Taiwan Edition series, released at a time when Chichibu's stocks were beginning to reach an age where more conventional maturation depth was becoming available alongside the NAS expressions that dominate the catalogue.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks at Venture Whisky's Saitama distillery, the 7 Years Old bottling is presented at cask strength 50.2%. The additional time in American oak beyond the distillery's typically younger releases adds a deeper vanilla and caramel foundation to Chichibu's characteristic orchard fruit character, while the relatively measured proof keeps the texture accessible. The Taiwan market, for which this was released only, has been one of the most consistent buyers of the Chichibu distillery's age-stated expressions.
