Cask number 972, distilled at Chichibu in Saitama in 2010 and bottled in 2019 after nine years, was released for the Japanese domestic market as a single cask under the Ichiro's Malt label. Nine years of Ex-Bourbon maturation represents a longer commitment to a single cask than most of the distillery's 2010 vintage releases, and the results are proportionally more developed.

American oak over nine years in the Japanese climate builds layers of dried apple, butterscotch and a spiced, nutty wood quality that gives the spirit genuine structure alongside Chichibu's characteristic brightness. At 61.6% cask strength the bottling arrives with energy, and the additional age brings a longer, warmer finish and more complexity than the five and six-year-old releases from the same distillation year.
