Chichibu Single Cask number 6240 is a 2016 vintage Ex-Bourbon release bottled in 2022 at 60.2% for the Australian market. Chichibu distillery in Saitama prefecture is Venture Whisky's flagship site, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, and its single cask programme covers a broad range of export markets with casks selected to reflect each market's preferences.
At six years old this is a relatively youthful expression, and the noted cooked mash character reflects the new make's cereal core sitting close to the surface. The Ex-Bourbon cask has added vanilla and soft wood sweetness, building a framework that complements the grainy depth without obscuring it. Chichibu's typically vibrant and fruit-forward character threads through the spirit alongside the cereal note, giving a whisky that is energetic and honest about its age. At 60.2% cask strength it is expressive and forthright on the palate.
