Cask number 3538 from Chichibu in Saitama was distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2019 at 8 years old for the Swiss market, one of a number of European releases from Venture Whisky and its founder Ichiro Akuto. The single cask comes at cask strength and shows the fuller, more developed profile that an 8 year old Chichibu in this cask type typically delivers.
The maturation combined Ex-Bourbon and Stout barrels, a pairing that brings vanilla and tropical fruit from the bourbon side alongside a darker, more textured roasted grain and earthy quality from the stout-seasoned wood. Chichibu's characteristically vibrant fruit-forward new make sits at the centre of this combination, lifted by the bourbon cask and grounded by the stout barrel. At 59.1%, the spirit is well-balanced across both influences.
