Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama, the flagship project of Venture Whisky under founder Ichiro Akuto, has maintained a dedicated UK allocation since the early years of its operation. Cask 2661, a 2013 vintage, was among the releases directed to the British market, bottled by the distillery after seven years of maturation in a single Ex-Bourbon barrel.
The flavour profile reflects the best of the Chichibu Ex-Bourbon style: chocolate, honey and fresh tropical fruit from the new make, with vanilla and new wood from the American oak, a faint whisper of smoke suggesting a slight peated component or simply the char of the barrel. At 62.1% cask strength the delivery is full and concentrated, with each note clear and distinct rather than blended into a smooth mass. The finish is warm and sustained, with fresh fruit and wood lingering side by side.
