Cask #2080 from Chichibu's 2012 vintage was matured for nine years in Ex-Bourbon wood and bottled in 2021 as a single-cask release for the Japanese domestic market. Chichibu, Venture Whisky's Saitama distillery founded by Ichiro Akuto in 2008, selects specific casks for domestic releases that run alongside its international single-cask programme.
Nine years in Ex-Bourbon oak brings an integrated vanilla and orchard-fruit warmth, with the spirit's earlier sharpness having settled into a rounder mid-palate. At 58% from a single cask the delivery is full but composed, presenting the 2012 vintage at a stage where Ex-Bourbon's contribution is clearly established without overwhelming the distillery's inherently fruit-forward new make. The domestic Japanese market allocation gives this bottling a particular character as a distillery-retained selection.
