Description
The Malt Dream Cask is a named event release from Chichibu in Saitama, selected from the distillery's warehouse by Venture Whisky for single-occasion bottling by founder Ichiro Akuto. This 2011 vintage was distilled at the Saitama site and bottled in 2019 at 8 years old for event distribution at cask strength.
The maturation is a single Ex-Bourbon cask, the most common vessel in Chichibu's programme and one that presents the distillery's character with the least additional complexity from exotic wood. Eight years in American oak builds vanilla, tropical fruit and a buttery, cereal sweetness, all consistent with what well-seasoned bourbon barrels do to the vibrant Chichibu new make over a longer ageing period. At 62.3%, the spirit arrives powerfully, the fruit-forward house character of the Saitama distillery fully intact across a long and well-developed Ex-Bourbon expression.
