Description
The Intergalactic Series is one of Chichibu's named event releases, bottles directed by Venture Whisky to specific occasions rather than to a regular retail channel. Edition 2 was distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2019 at 8 years old for events, arriving at cask strength from the distillery founded in Saitama by Ichiro Akuto.
The maturation is a single Stout cask, the beer-seasoned barrel that gives roasted grain, dark chocolate and an earthy, malt-heavy quality to a spirit given enough time in it. At eight years, the stout barrel has had substantial opportunity to build depth and texture into the spirit, and the typically fruit-forward Chichibu new make sits beneath this darker, more textured mantle. At 55.8% the whisky is measured in its delivery, giving the stout cask's influence room to show across the full palate.
