Description
The Port Pipe series from Chichibu in Saitama has become one of the most recognised recurring releases under the Ichiro's Malt label, using port pipe maturation to bring a rich, wine-influenced character to the distillery's fruit-forward new make. This 2009 distillation was a vatted rather than single cask release, bottled in 2013 after four years and aimed at the global market under Venture Whisky.
Port maturation at this age delivers dark red berry, a streak of chocolate and gentle warming spice, layered over the light apple and orchard-fruit base that Chichibu's spirit provides. At 54.5% the bottling sits between cask strength and standard bottling strength, giving it an intensity that shows the wood's contribution clearly while remaining approachable without dilution.
