Description
The Chichibu Edition 2019 is a single cask expression from Saitama's Venture Whisky distillery, distilled in 2009 and released a decade later under the Ichiro's Malt label for global distribution. Maturation spanned Ex-Bourbon and rum casks, a combination the distillery has used to highlight its fruit-forward new make at its most expressive.
The cask notes carry through clearly: dried fruit, fresh fruit, honey and malt extract from the bourbon wood, while the rum finish adds oily richness and a thread of old wood spice. At 60.4% cask strength the palate is full and layered, balancing sweetness with the nutty, waxy depth that nine years in active casks can bring. The recorded flavour profile of dried fruit, fresh fruit, honey, malt extract, oily texture and old wood all speak to this pairing working in complementary fashion.
