Description
Cask by Cask is one of Chichibu's single cask series designed for specific export markets, and No. 4 is a 2016 vintage Oloroso sherry cask bottled in 2024 at 59.5% for Sweden. Chichibu distillery sits in Saitama prefecture and is the flagship operation of Venture Whisky, founded by Ichiro Akuto in 2008 to revive his family's long whisky heritage.
Seven years in an Oloroso sherry cask draws out the rich, dark fruit and nut character the wood is known for: dried fig, raisin and dark chocolate sit alongside warming spice, while the underlying Chichibu new make brings its orchard-fruit brightness to balance the sherry's weight. At 59.5% the bottling is full-bodied and layered, with the sherry influence prominent but not overwhelming, giving a whisky that speaks clearly of both the cask and the Saitama distillery behind it.
