Description
From the 7EVEN Gods of Fortune series, this is a 2016 vintage single cask Chichibu matured in a stout cask, bottled in 2023 at 62.4% for an event release. The use of a stout cask is one of the more adventurous moves in Chichibu's wide wood programme, marking this out within the Gods of Fortune series. Chichibu distillery was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto in Saitama prefecture and is operated by Venture Whisky.
A stout cask brings roasted grain, dark chocolate and a coffee-edged bitterness to the spirit, working against Chichibu's naturally bright and fruity new make to create a whisky of genuine contrast and depth. The sweet malt of the distillery's house character provides balance to the stout's roasted influence, and at 62.4% cask strength the bottling is full and direct, with the beer-cask character prominent on both nose and palate.
