Description
The 7EVEN Gods of Fortune is Chichibu's event only single cask series, and this 2017 vintage edition was drawn from an Ex-Bourbon barrel and bottled in 2023 at 65.4% cask strength. Chichibu distillery in Saitama prefecture was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto of Venture Whisky, making it the craft cornerstone of Japan's modern whisky revival, and the Gods of Fortune series is one of the distillery's most collectible lines.
At six years old in an Ex-Bourbon barrel, this is a young and energetic release, where the American oak has given vanilla and warm spice but the distillery's fruit-forward new make character is still vivid and close to the surface. The flavour data is blank, so the profile sits within Chichibu's established Ex-Bourbon house register: clean, cereal-sweet and orchard-bright, with a building warmth. At 65.4% it is the most concentrated expression in this batch and arrives with considerable intensity.
