Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama has produced a significant number of single-cask selections for La Maison du Whisky over the years, reflecting a long-standing relationship with the Paris-based specialist retailer. This 2013 vintage, cask 2933, matured in an American oak barrel for seven years before being bottled for the French market at 50.9%, lower in strength than many Chichibu casks but still above the typical diluted release level.
The flavour profile shows citric brightness and honey alongside vanilla from the American oak, with new wood and a slightly rubbery, sweaty note common in young, lightly matured grain-forward spirit. At 50.9%, the palate is more approachable than the highest-ABV Chichibu releases but loses none of the distillery's characteristic precision. The finish shows residual citrus and soft cereal sweetness, grounded by a gentle wood tannin from seven seasons in the Saitama climate.
