Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama, Venture Whisky's flagship site founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, rarely holds casks for a full decade before release. Cask 3079, a 2013 vintage selected by La Maison du Whisky and bottled in 2024 for the French market, represents an extended maturation by the distillery's standards, with ten years in a single Ex-Bourbon barrel.
The additional time in American oak has softened the new make's initial vibrancy into something rounder and more complex: vanilla, toffee and ripe barley in the foreground, with a persistent cereal sweetness and the gentle coconut note that bourbon casks tend to impart over longer ageing. Bottled at 64.4% without reduction, the high ABV brings concentrated wood and spirit together into a forceful but focused delivery, finishing with warm spice and a clean, sustained fade that shows a decade's work without excessive woodiness.
