A traditional Martinique rum from Chauvet, dark and molasses-rich with sweet spice, leather and a vegetal edge over a slightly sour young-wood finish, bottled at 44%.
Description
A long-established Martinique label from Chauvet, presented in its heritage style. The dark, molasses-driven character points away from a classic dry cane-juice blanc and toward a richer, grand arome leaning profile, an intense and well-spiced traditional rum bottled at 44%.
The nose is dominated by molasses and sweetness with a vegetal, leathery depth. The palate continues with molasses, more sweetness, vegetal notes and a young-wood edge, and the finish turns slightly sour with that young wood, more sweetness and vegetal character. It carries a dark, full-flavoured spice that recalls the heavier French-island style and even draws comparison to Guadeloupe rums in feel. Added sugar is not declared; the sweet impression sits within a robust, spice-forward frame. A characterful, old-school Martinique rum with plenty of body, made for drinkers who like the darker, spicier end of the island's range.
