Description
Château Siaurac lies in Lalande-de-Pomerol, on the right bank of Bordeaux, where technical director Penelope Godefroy has established biodynamic farming to draw out the character of the terroir. The appellation sits on gravel, sand and clay over an iron-rich subsoil known locally as crasse de fer, which lends the Merlot its depth and a fine mineral edge. Merlot leads the blend on these moisture-holding soils, with Cabernet Sauvignon for structure and Malbec for colour and dark fruit. After fermentation, malolactic conversion lowers the acidity and adds roundness, then twelve months in oak barrels softens the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and adds gentle spice. The 2025 is deep ruby, with aromas of ripe cherry and blackcurrant over violets, earth and a touch of clove. The palate is elegant and fresh, with ripe red and dark fruit, fine tannin and a long, savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant an hour ahead. It suits beef, lamb, duck and mushroom dishes.
