Domaines Ott makes Château Romassan Coeur de Grain in Bandol from Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Grenache. From a producer founded in 1896 and known for respect of the land, it is pale and fresh, with strawberry, peach and citrus.
Description
Domaines Ott was founded in 1896 by an Alsatian agronomist who settled in Provence, and Château Romassan is its Bandol estate. The winery holds three Provence properties, two classified as Cru Classé, and has long farmed with care for the land; since 2004 it has worked alongside Champagne house Louis Roederer. Coeur de Grain is the house name for its rosés, referring to the heart of the grape. This wine blends the Bandol grapes Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Grenache, grown in a warm Mediterranean climate moderated by sea breezes. The pale colour comes from a brief skin contact and a gentle press, the direct, controlled extraction that defines a serious Provence rosé, with cool fermentation to protect the delicate aromatics. Mourvèdre lends structure and a savoury depth, while Cinsault and Grenache bring red fruit and roundness. The result is a light, pale rosé with aromas of strawberry, peach and a subtle citrus note. The palate is dry and fresh, with red fruit, a fine mineral line and a clean, persistent finish. Serve chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass, as an aperitif or with food across the warmer months.
