Description
Château Rauzan-Ségla sits in the AOC Margaux on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, a second growth classified in 1855 and owned by Chanel since 1994. Margaux lies on some of the deepest, finest gravel in the Médoc, soils that drain freely and warm quickly to ripen Cabernet Sauvignon, while the clay and limestone beneath retain water and give the wines their depth. The fine gravel and warm sites are what lend Margaux its perfume and silky texture. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in support, and the estate works under respectful farming. The 2025 ages 18 months in oak barrels, where measured oxygen exchange through the wood softens the tannins and adds cedar, graphite and spice. The wine is deep red, with a nose of fresh cassis, redcurrant and dark cherry over violet, pencil lead and dried earth. The palate is full yet refined, the fine grained tannins and floral lift marking it as Margaux, the finish long and savoury. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted an hour ahead, with roast lamb, beef or game.
