Château Pesquié makes this organic, biodynamic Ventoux from Grenache and Syrah grown on hillside terraces. Raised in concrete to keep the fruit clear, it shows wild cherry and red plum over garrigue, crushed stone and a hint of black pepper.
Description
Château Pesquié Terrasses Rouge is an organic and biodynamic red from AOC Ventoux, in the southern Rhône, made from Grenache and Syrah. The vines grow on hillside terraces, a system used where the slopes are too steep for the roots to establish easily and for machines to work, so the vineyard is tended by hand. The high, cool Ventoux climate, shaped by the altitude of the mountain, gives the grapes a long ripening period and keeps acidity and aromatic freshness in the fruit. The wine is raised in concrete tanks rather than wood, an inert vessel that adds no oak character and keeps the focus on pure fruit and the stony, herbal signature of the site. The colour is deep ruby. The nose carries wild cherry and red plum wrapped in garrigue, crushed stone and a subtle black pepper note from the Syrah. The palate is fresh and savoury, with ripe fruit, fine tannins and a long, stony finish that reflects the cool hillside terroir. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits grilled lamb, roast beef, herb crusted pork and roasted vegetables.
