Chateau Pesquie makes this biodynamic Ventoux white from Viognier, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, under Mont Ventoux. Aged in concrete, it shows apricot, white peach and floral aromatics with a fresh, stony finish.
Description
Chateau Pesquie sits at the foot of Mont Ventoux in the southern Rhone, whose pale limestone slopes rise close to 2000 metres and shape the climate below. This white comes from the AOC Ventoux and blends Viognier, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, farmed under biodynamic and organic practice. The mountain's calcareous soils and its altitude bring cool nights that offset the warm Provencal days, and this diurnal range preserves acidity and aromatic freshness in the grapes. Viognier gives apricot and floral perfume, Roussanne adds structure and a nutty weight, Clairette lends freshness and Grenache Blanc rounds the body. The wine is aged in concrete, which keeps the fruit clean and vibrant while adding texture, and leaves the aromatics unmarked by oak. It shows a pale straw colour, with apricot, white peach and white flowers on the nose over melon and pear. The palate is fresh and lightly rounded, with stone fruit, a honeyed touch and a clean, stony finish drawn from the limestone soils. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It works as an aperitif and with lighter fish, poultry and vegetable dishes.
