Château Pesquié makes Quintessence Rosé in AOC Ventoux from Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Clairette, farmed biodynamically. Aged a year in concrete and barrel, it is a pale, fresh rosé of strawberry and peach with real texture.
Description
Château Pesquié sits in AOC Ventoux in the southern Rhône, named for the altitude of Mont Ventoux that defines the appellation. This rosé is the estate's Quintessence cuvée, a biodynamic, organic and vegan wine blending Mourvèdre, Cinsault and the white grape Clairette. Ventoux is cooler than the Rhône valley floor, with higher vineyards and a strong day-to-night temperature swing that holds acidity and keeps the fruit fresh in a warm Mediterranean climate. The wine is aged for around twelve months in concrete and barrel: the concrete is neutral and porous, allowing slow oxygen exchange that builds texture without oak character, while the time on lees rounds the palate and adds weight, and the small share of barrel lends a subtle savoury depth. The inclusion of white Clairette brings extra freshness and floral lift to the red grapes. The result is a pale pink rosé with aromas of ripe strawberry, juicy peach and citrus peel over a floral, herbal note. The palate is dry and fresh with a textured, mineral mid-palate and a clean finish. Serve chilled at around 9 to 11 degrees, in a white wine glass, as a gastronomic rosé with food.
