Description
Château Pesquié is run by brothers Alexandre and Frédéric Chaudière in the Ventoux region of the southern Rhône, at the foot of the southern slopes of Mont Ventoux, the highest mountain in Provence. This is a varietal Chardonnay. The old vines grow on organic and biodynamic plots between 300 and 400 metres, where the mountain drives a distinctly cool microclimate. That altitude, with warm days and cold nights off Ventoux, gives a wide diurnal range that ripens the fruit slowly and keeps acidity fresh, which is unusual for Chardonnay in the warm south. The old vines contribute low yields and depth of flavour. Fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature keeps the wine clean and primary and lets the site show through. It is pale with green highlights. The nose offers green apple and pineapple with white peach and a light floral note. The palate is fresh and medium bodied, with pear, melon and a citrus lift that carries a lively finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits white fish and lighter poultry. This wine is organic, biodynamic and vegan.
