Description
Chateau Pape Clement is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux, working in Pessac-Leognan, the Graves district that produces the region's leading dry whites. The white blends Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon with a portion of Sauvignon Gris, grown on the deep gravel and clay-gravel soils that define the appellation. The stony ground drains freely and stores heat, ripening the fruit fully, while the maritime climate and cool nights hold the acidity that keeps these whites fresh. The wine is fermented and aged in oak barrels, where lees contact and slow oxygen exchange build texture and integrate the wood, and Sauvignon Gris adds an extra layer of weight and citrus-peel aroma to the blend. Sauvignon Blanc gives the aromatic lift, Semillon the body. The colour is bright yellow. The nose is fresh and elegant, with ripe peach, pear and a hint of pineapple over citrus, white flowers and a light oak spice. The palate is textured yet crisp, closing clean and long. Serve at 11 to 13 degrees, and decant a young bottle.
