Château Minuty makes this pale Côtes de Provence rosé from Grenache and Syrah grown near the Mediterranean. The sea and the Mistral wind shape the vines, giving a dry wine of white peach, red berry and a saline freshness.
Description
Château Minuty is one of the classified estates of Provence, and this rosé takes its name from the Pantone blue used to mark its bottle, a reference to the Mediterranean that governs the region. The vineyards sit in the southeast of France, where sunshine is abundant and rainfall scarce. The sea softens the winters and the Mistral wind cools the hot summers, slowing ripening and holding the acidity that a pale Provence rosé depends on. Grenache brings red fruit and body while Syrah adds structure and a darker berry note. The grapes are pressed gently and the juice run off with minimal skin contact, which keeps the colour very pale and the tannins absent. Cool fermentation in stainless steel preserves the delicate aromatics. The colour is a pale salmon pink with a faint silver edge. The nose shows white peach, redcurrant and white flowers, with a citrus lift. The palate is dry and light, with melon and a saline mineral note carrying the clean finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees as an aperitif or with light Mediterranean dishes.
