Description
Château Mangot is a Grand Cru Classé estate in A.O.C. Saint-Émilion, in Bordeaux's right bank in southwest France, farmed organically. The wine follows the region's classic blend, led by Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot brings flesh and ripe plum fruit, Cabernet Franc adds aromatic lift and a leafy freshness, and Cabernet Sauvignon contributes backbone and structure. Saint-Émilion's soils vary from limestone and clay on the plateau to sand and gravel on the lower slopes, and this mix shapes the wine's balance of ripeness and grip. The maritime climate, warm but moderated by the Atlantic, ripens Merlot fully while the later Cabernets retain freshness. After fermentation the wine ages fifteen months in barrel, where slow oxygen exchange through the oak softens the tannins and adds fine spice, toast and a cocoa edge. It is deep and youthful in the glass, with ripe plum, black cherry and red currant on the nose over tobacco, oak and earth. The palate is full bodied and structured, the tannins firm but ripe, the finish long and savoury. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees, decanted, with roast beef, lamb or game.
