Description
Château Lynch-Bages is a long-established estate in Pauillac, on the left bank of Bordeaux, owned by the Cazes family. The wine blends Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Pauillac is built on deep gravel banks that drain freely and store daytime heat, helping Cabernet ripen fully while the Gironde estuary moderates the climate. These poor, stony soils force the vines deep and yield concentrated, firmly structured fruit. The wine is aged for 18 months in 225 litre French oak barrels, where gradual oxygen exchange and contact with new wood build tannin, soften the texture and add cedar, cocoa and spice that integrate with age. The colour is deep garnet. The nose shows blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum over cedar, tobacco and a graphite edge. The palate is full and structured, with firm but ripe tannin, blackcurrant fruit and a long, savoury finish typical of the appellation. This is a wine that rewards cellaring. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees and decant for two hours when young. It is made for roast and grilled red meat and aged cheese.
