Château Lacoste-Borie is the second wine of Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste in Pauillac, Bordeaux, run by the Borie family. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc aged sixteen months in barrel, it shows ripe blackcurrant, plum and cedar over firm tannins.
Description
Château Lacoste-Borie is the second wine of Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, a classed growth of Pauillac on the left bank of Bordeaux, made by François-Xavier Borie. It is a classic Médoc blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grown on the deep gravel mounds of Pauillac. These well-drained gravel soils store heat and force the vines to root deeply, helping the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon ripen fully while the estuary moderates the climate for a long, even season. The wine is aged for 16 months in oak barrels under sustainable farming, where slow oxygen exchange softens the firm tannins, fixes the colour and adds cedar, spice and structure. The colour is deep red. The nose shows ripe blackcurrant, plum and red berries with cocoa, vanilla, tobacco and an earthy edge. The palate is full bodied and structured, with firm fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and a long savoury finish typical of Pauillac. This is a wine that benefits from a few years in the cellar. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees and decant an hour ahead. It suits roast beef, lamb and game.
