Description
Château La Conseillante sits on the Pomerol plateau in Bordeaux, on the boundary with Saint-Émilion. Its vineyards combine deep blue clay over gravel and iron-rich subsoil, the geology that gives Pomerol its body and its characteristic mineral, earthy edge. Merlot ripens early and fully here, filling the mid palate with dark fruit, while a portion of Cabernet Franc adds aromatic lift and a firmer line of tannin. The 2025 is fermented and then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange through the wood softens the tannins, fixes colour and adds a measured frame of cedar and spice without masking the fruit. The wine is deep red, with a nose of blackberry, blueberry and ripe plum over tobacco, dried earth and a hint of violet. The palate is supple and fine grained, the clay soils carrying weight while the Cabernet Franc keeps the finish savoury and long. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant an hour ahead to open the aromatics. It suits roast beef, rack of lamb and game birds.
