Description
Chateau Durfort-Vivens is a classified Second Growth in the Margaux appellation of the Medoc, farmed organically under Gonzague Lurton across 55 hectares of vineyards. The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Margaux is defined by its deep beds of gravel, which drain freely, hold the day's warmth and force the vines to root deeply, giving the fragrant, finely structured style the appellation is known for. The maritime climate of the Gironde estuary moderates the seasons and allows a long, even ripening. The wine is aged in oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange softens the firm Cabernet tannins and adds cedar and spice to the fruit. The colour is deep purple-red. The nose shows blackcurrant and red cherry alongside cedar, tobacco and a leafy, earthy character. The palate is medium to full, elegant and structured, with fine-grained tannins and a long, savoury finish that will reward time in the cellar. Decant an hour ahead and serve at 17 to 18 degrees in a large glass. It is a classic partner for lamb and beef.
