A 5 year TDL from Chateau du Breuil at 41%, fruit-forward and not too sweet, with orange and orange peel leading over cocoa, dried fruit, clove and a coconut-and-marmalade finish, an easy young Trinidad sipper.
Description
Chateau du Breuil, the Norman calvados and spirits house, bottled this young TDL as part of its Rum Explorer range, a five year Trinidad rum at 41%. TDL is Trinidad Distillers Limited within the Angostura group, whose light, column-distilled molasses rum is the smooth, fragrant signature of living Trinidad.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it is openly fruit-driven, with woody, orange and cocoa notes on the nose, then a palate led by orange, orange peel and candied fruit, finishing on coconut, marmalade and a vegetal edge. Despite its youth it shows recognisable TDL markers, and it reads a little less sweet and more digestible than some peers in the range, with clove and citrus carrying through. This is an approachable, orange-forward young Trinidad rum for casual sipping or mixing, undemanding and pleasant rather than deep.
