Château Cos Labory is a Saint-Estèphe estate making this Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Oak ageing gives a structured red of dark cherry, ripe plum and a savoury, earthy frame.
Description
Château Cos Labory lies in Saint-Estèphe at the northern end of the Médoc, where the soils carry more clay over the gravel than the appellations to the south. The blend is built on Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The cooler clay rich terroir holds water through dry spells and lends Saint-Estèphe its firm structure and savoury character, while the gravel ridges drain and warm the Cabernet. The estate farms sustainably. The wine is aged in French oak, where slow oxygen ingress through the staves stabilises colour and rounds the tannins, and the wood adds cedar and spice. The colour is a deep ruby. The nose shows dark cherry and ripe plum over tobacco, earth and a touch of oak spice. The palate is full bodied with firm tannin, fresh acidity and a long, savoury finish marked by black pepper and earth. The structure rewards a few years in the cellar. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees, decanted in advance, with roast beef, lamb or a hard mature cheese.
