Description
Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot is a well-regarded grower in the Côte de Nuits, and this is his village wine from Morey-Saint-Denis, the appellation set between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny in the north of Burgundy. The grape is Pinot Noir, farmed biodynamically. Morey sits on limestone and marl slopes; the limestone keeps the roots cool and holds steady moisture, giving red Burgundy its bright acidity and fine tannins, while the marl adds flesh and body. Cool nights and warm days across the growing season preserve aromatics and freshness. The wine is aged in oak barrels, where gentle oxygen exchange through the staves rounds the tannins and adds subtle spice and cedar without masking the fruit. It shows a mid ruby colour and a nose of red cherry and dark berries over earth and gentle oak spice. The palate is medium-bodied and structured, with fresh acidity, silky tannins and a savoury, mineral finish typical of the Côte de Nuits. Serve at 16 degrees and decant 30 minutes ahead. It suits game, poultry and mushroom dishes.
