Philippe Charlopin-Parizot makes this Bourgogne Côte d’Or from Pinot Noir on the Côte d’Or in Burgundy, farmed biodynamically. Deep-coloured and aromatic, it shows strawberry, blackcurrant, stone fruit and liquorice over a structured, savoury palate.
Description
This Tête Cuvée comes from Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot, one of Burgundy's most respected growers, made from Pinot Noir grown on the Côte d'Or. The estate farms biodynamically, working the soil and the vines without synthetic chemicals to express the site. The vineyards sit on the limestone and clay slopes of the Côte d'Or, where the well-drained calcareous soils and the cool continental climate, with warm days and cold nights, ripen Pinot Noir slowly and hold its acidity and perfume. Charlopin is known for a richer, deeper style of Burgundy than many of his peers, built on ripe fruit and careful oak ageing that rounds the tannins and adds a measured frame of spice through slow oxygen exchange. The wine is deep-coloured and intense for its level. The nose is very aromatic, showing strawberry, blackcurrant and stone fruit with liquorice and an earthy undertone. The palate is structured and savoury, the red fruit carried by fine tannins and the bright acidity typical of the Côte, finishing long. Serve at 16 degrees in a large glass. It suits roast duck, poultry and mushroom dishes.
