Description
The Premiere Cuvee is the step up in the Charlopin-Parizot regional Burgundy range, made by Philippe Charlopin and his son Yann from selected Cote d'Or fruit. The Bourgogne Cote d'Or appellation draws on the better regional plots along the slope, on limestone and marl soils that lend Pinot Noir its freshness and fine structure. The domaine farms biodynamically, and this cuvee comes from a stronger selection of vines, giving more depth than the standard bottling. Ageing in oak barrel over several months allows slow oxygen exchange to round the tannins and add a savoury frame while keeping the fruit clear. The 2021 vintage shows well here, aromatic and fruity, with warmth on the palate. The colour is bright ruby. The nose is dominated by cherry, with red berries, rose and a hint of earth behind. The palate is silky and medium bodied, with ripe red fruit, fine tannins and a soft, warming finish. Serve at sixteen to seventeen degrees, in a Burgundy glass. It pairs well with roast poultry, duck and mushroom dishes.
