A Mexican charanda from Michoacan, distilled on pot and column stills from both molasses and fresh cane juice, unaged and bottled at 46%, showing herbal, vegetal, smoky notes with green cane and a surprising thread of chocolate.
Description
Charanda de Uruapan makes this Blanco in the highlands of Michoacan, where charanda is its own protected Mexican category. Drawing on both molasses and fresh sugar-cane juice and distilled across pot and column stills, it sits somewhere between an agricole-style white and a classic cane spirit, bottled unaged at a confident 46%.
The cane-juice component gives it an agricole-leaning freshness, herbal and vegetal on the nose with green cane and a curl of smoke. The palate stays green and vegetal, dry and faintly smoky, with an unexpected note of chocolate and a dried-apricot lift on the finish. This is a white rum with genuine terroir character rather than a neutral mixer, closer in spirit to a fresh cane spirit than to a sweetened sipper. It drinks well neat for the curious and brings real personality to a cane-forward cocktail.
