Description
Domaine Chandon de Briailles is a family estate founded in 1834, set four kilometres from Beaune, working thirteen hectares across Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton under certified organic and biodynamic farming. This Pinot Noir comes from the Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru, one of the named climats on the Corton hill, where limestone and iron-rich marl give the wine its structure, perfume and savoury minerality. The biodynamic approach in the vineyard aims for balanced, low-yielding vines and ripe, healthy fruit, so the wine is shaped in the cellar with restraint. Eighteen months in French oak raise the wine, the slow oxygen exchange through the barrel softening and integrating the tannins while keeping the oak in a supporting role behind the fruit. The colour is bright, medium ruby. The nose is fragrant, with red cherry, raspberry and dried rose over a clear earthy, spiced base, and the palate is medium bodied and elegant, with fine, silky tannins, fresh acidity and a long, savoury finish built for the cellar. Serve at sixteen degrees, decanting if young. Good with roast duck, game and mushroom dishes.
